These are my reasons too!! I would rather find the mistakes before I give it instead of after.
Me too! And I guess most of all I want to make sure it IS washable before I gift it. If it doesn't turn out well, I will keep it for myself and make another one; never had todo this yet. If you make charity quilts they tell you to wash them before sending them away.
