I taught myself how to sew 4 years ago on a 1911 Singer 27 that I had no idea as to how they were supposed to work. I am a guy so that really threw me a curve but you know what it wasnt hard at all. I learned on a treadle and I still use them exclusively. Just remember the handwheel is what you start and stop the machine by.
