I keep walking by the quilt and really both look good to me, but I don't think I want to go as wild and wacky as the right one appears. Also, it looks like I'm mitering, I think the left would be easier to match up or easier on the eyes if it doesn't match

The point is the kitty faces! You don't want to compete with them! I would use the tiny dots in the sashing for an all around inner border, then the one on the left as a narrow border around that. and bind it in red!
