1) Not pressing hard enough/consistently.
2) Blade is dull or chipped and needs replacement.
3) Possible cutting thru too many layers of fabric...
4) Also, check that you don't have a build up of lint on the blade (clean and lightly oil the blade), this may help.
5) make sure the blade is tight.
