IMHO - fleece is nice for backing, but I only use for baby quilts (about 4X6 or width of fleece). Then I make a cotton block designs on front. I've also used the Fablu-liques from Jo-anns (purchased with coupon) to sew on that way I don't have to quilt blanket. I bind with fleece binding which can be purchased (again with Jo-anns coupon). Appliques can be your own design too, but whatever you like or my personal saying "whatever makes your hair fly back". As for a batting in a larger quilt, I like cotton only because that way it breaths with you when you sleep. Fleece is a polyester, after all and is a nylon/polyester that does not breath.
