I tried it with strips on top and bottom and hand-sewing the the batting together, then the final seam on the bottom. I didn't enjoy it. My next quilt could be done in large 8in wide strip sections from top to bottom. I think I'm going to try using a full size backing, and quilting one strip by cutting away some of the batting, and rolling up the extra backing. Then once that strip is done, re-adding enough batting to do the next strip, and add that strip to the top. Then I'll still have a nice solid back, and no extra hand-sewing. I'll see how that goes.
