My mom taught me how to hand sew when I was about seven or eight. I made a chicken out of a sock. I had to teach myself how to use a machine. That was when I was in my late 20's before the birth of my first child. Nine or so years later, I made my first quilt. I had to teach myself how to do that, too, by reading lots of books and watching videos.
