Well.... my 1/4" seams were always off... so decided that I needed a machine with constant feed dogs (always in contact with the fabric).. Believe me, it does really help, as I'm closer now to perfection...
BUT... buying a more expensive machine doesn't fix the problem as I'd hoped. My seam ripper is still fully employed...
