My grandparents were from Varmland, Sweden. Grandpa was my very best person in the world to love. Tall and thin and he always called me Edit (pronounced Ay-dit). Grandma couldn't speak a word of English, but raised six children, two of which died young.
The three brothers, Ole, Otto and John Olssen came over and landed at Ellis Island and there were so many Olssens that they changed their name on the spot to another name. Grandpa was a lumberjack in Michigan, chewed snus and took me to the local bar and while he had a beer, I got orange pop. Wonderful memories. He died when I was only 9 years old, but I remember my Swedish grandpa. Edie
