There may be fault lines on the east coast but they are relatively inactive. If you go to www.usgs.gov there are real time maps that show EQ activity. And they have a special page devoted only to California and Nevada because it is much more active there. So really you were not mistaken at all. East coast does NOT experience much EQ activity at all and what we do experience is very small and almost imperceptable to humans.
