Yes, the foot pedal can have issues. We replaced the foot pedal on one machine, not the same Janome but the same type of foot pedal.

The only problem I have had with it is that, twice, when I took my foot off the pedal the machine kept sewing. I had to turn it off in order to stop it. I had heard that this was a problem with Janome foot pedals so I was not completely surprised.
