While I'm always the first to look for a conspiracy, I don't think there is one here.
The original question did not mention the ad, it was just asking a math question. Plus magpie is a frequent poster on these boards.
We can debate the mathematical level of difficulty of that question another time. ;-)
Did it drive people to the auction and possibly affect the bidding? Yeah. But I don't view it any differently than most of the other posts linking to great sales on other sites. Those sellers certainly benefit from the traffic.
I think all is kosher here (in this case).
However, if someone is really, really interested in bidding on a seemingly great auction deal, the advice NOT to share is pretty wise.
