It think it is a great way to help a good cause, either I have extra change and I give or I don't, but you shouldn't feel guilty if you choose not to give. Having been on the volunteering side of the collection, you certainly don't expect everyone to give and you appreciate everyone who does. And volunteers don't want anyone to feel bad if they choose not to give, but it is also great exposure for the groups who are doing the fund raising.
