Having lived in AZ for more than 20 years we didn't see a lot of web producing spiders other than the black widow. I thought I remembered that wolf spiders were ground spiders so looked it up. They are still impressive none the less and because they are venomous I would usually stomp on one if I saw it in the yard.
Sure enough: "Wolf spiders are active hunters that do not produce a snaring web. They may make a silk lined retreat in soil, under rocks or in other protected sites." I just let the garden spiders exist and work around them as they supply much needed services and I find their webs intriguing. Ann in TN
