The current issue of Quilting Arts magazine (Dec/Jan 2008 ) has an article on page 23 called "Taking The Inside Out - Painted Batting as a Quilting Surface". It says that cotton batting is a wonderful material to use on the outside of a quilt and it's got some beautiful examples (as well as directions) to prove it. Have fun!
