When my mom was dying of breast cancer I did a small (8x10) quilt with a generational picture of her and the next 3 generations; also stitched were Mom, Grandma, Great-grandma, along with a message of what she meant to me and the next 3 generations. This was laid in her coffin and buried with her. She too did not want any elaborate wake or funeral since my father (her beloved husband of 62 years)had passed away 3 years earlier. My mom died with a smile on her face - I like to think she was seeing my father and excited to show him the little quilt since they both encouraged me and my sister to quilt.
