I check yard sales and second hand stores. Its a good way to start. Alos I have friends who sew but do not quilt. Ask them if they would donate scraps left over. Many are real glad to find someone to take them People will also give batting this way. So talk to all your sewing friends and family. I used some of my dh shirts to make practice blocks.
