The 70s....I was just a little one but I remember the muted colors in my parents house. Olive, rust, brown. And then there was our living room done in red and black velvet curtains in the winter and blue velvet in the summer, YUK! I think you could get by with solids in the muted colors with a modern pattern. I'd do a search on google for modern quilt patterns and you should find what you need.
