I hem jeans all the time (even petite is a little long) on my Wards Computer 2001. No special needle or thread. Just have to go slowly over the seams and maybe lift the foot a little to get over the hump. This machine was purchased in 1987 so you know it isn't a youngster anymore and it isn't especially made for heavy duty denim but it sure gets the job done!
