Yes, you can get them locally. The 301 uses the same bobbins as the FW. I've purchased them at Hancock's. Not sure about Joann's. And they use regular needles. You'll love your 301. I sew on my Mom's from time to time and it's a great machine. I have a FW and may eventually end up with my Mom's. But if I had to choose between the two I'd probably take the 301.
