could you cut a strip of felt, to circle the inside of the container, make a few pockets by folding it up almost in half from the bottom and stitch, (for scissors, small seam ripper, and other small tools). then make a yo-yo shaped pin cushion and fasten it to the INSIDE of the container LID. put a spool of thread in the center and off you go to sew. in my head that would work, in reality i don't really know, i might just have to try it. just thinking out loud here. --it would be even better if you could hinge the lid to the bottom so it stayed more like one piece.
