Strips that are 2.5 can easily be cut into 2.5x2.5 squares for 4 patch, 9 patch, or 25 patch. They can also be made into a courthouse square block, or Chinese coins, or rail fence. I've forgotten the name of another pattern I'm thinking about, but it looked like a brick wall.
