thanks everyone! I feel better after jumping up and down and letting it out!! then I thought about it, and I should have caught the mistake right away. Well, you can do the pattern, but instead of cutting out 36 4" x4" squares, it would be 4.5 by 4.5 inch squares- or what I did was cut 4 7/8 in squares and cut in half, marked 1/4 in seam allowance, and stiched on the line (less fabric waste). big sigh..... looks much better now!!
