We really can't evaluate sewing machines on here - I know some times people do try to but each machine is in different condition. There are 'going' rates for some machines in various places of the world - those rates can change. I've seen machines in excellent visual condition have things wrong that have taken a while to track and repair. I do know that some of the older machines cost a lot of money in their day. Some hold some value because of the quality to begin with. Those machines were what kept a household going - clothes for the family, quilts, curtains some times upholstery you name it - these days so much can be purchased - all made in China or where ever. The sewing machine is worth what ever you are wiling to pay. Then use it and use it and use it. Some of the older machines were never all that great to start with. Some were pretty wonderful and will sew for a very long time. Look around this board and see something you think you might like and watch for one. I know a lot of people brag about how cheap they got a sewing machine - they often fail to mention how much they had to spend on servicing it or how much time they had to spend fixing it themselves. If they didn't have it serviced, maybe they should, just to keep the machine going a lot longer. There are some around who service a machine then sell on line or on Craig's List - you can find moderately priced machines that way too. Spend a little time when you buy one that way. Make sure it works well. If the electrical is gone, chances are that machine was neglected and will need a very good cleaning before you can use it. You can buy new wiring on line. We have a place to get help on here on Quilting Board: http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...ll-t43881.html you do not have to start in the front and read the whole thing - you can just ask your question and someone will come up with an answer.
