Aha! Just found a slightly different manual than the one I have for the Singer 301. It's a free download on Jenny's Sew-Classic blog from Singer Co. On page 28 it says: CAUTION: the motor requires no lubrication.
So that could be why you have two kinds of 301 motors Candace! Some need to be lubed and some don't. You were right, I don't need to worry about it... Yay!
