Hi, I live in Atchison, Kansas -- I began to quilt about two months ago. Started with some quilt tops that I acquired at a fabric auction and set out to finish them. Some were ready for machine quilting so I sent them to my sister-in-law. Then I added borders and whatever else was needed to finish the others. Then I made a quilt for my grandson. Finished the embroidery work on some kitten squares and added quilt blocks, borders, and sent it off to be machine quilted. I tacked finishing a Lone Star Quilt and have made up my mind to machine quilt it at home. I designed my own pattern for one quilt. Then I did a bed runner, a Cuddly Bug Baby Quilt, and made my Dad a flannel and jean quilt.
Then I read an article on Doll Quilts and how to use small projects to gain your quilting skills and find out what works for you - colors, designs, etc. So I made 14 doll quilts. Now I am making 4 baby quilts.
Will save the doll quilts and baby quilts for great-grandchildren.
I inherited 3 quilts from my in-laws. My mother made me a doll quilt when I was a child and she made me a Tessalation quilt from flour sack material.
I learned to sew in 4-H. Made clothes, curtains, American Girl doll clothes for two granddaughters. I just finished making two bedside caddies, two poofs, and a Renaissance costume for granddaughters for college.
So far I have found quilting to be challenging, enjoyable, and relaxing.
