Just joined this board. I was given the 1600 Jelly Roll idea by a terrific woman who ran a quilt shop in Mountain View AR. I needed something quicker to make for my youngest granddaughter (will be 2 in Dec 2012). I've been reading threads and instructions about this quilt all over. I think the idea of cutting the strips shorter is great. I've also decided to make a bunch of 2 1/2 " paper pieced hearts to add into this one. I don't know how often to sew them in so that they won't all bunch up, but I'll probably just take a guess as I don't want to do the math!!!
