This recipe is from a neighbor of my mother. It's very good & makes 2 loaves.

Old Fashion Gingerbread

1/2 c softened butter plus 1/2 c liquid shortening
2 eggs
2 c dark molasses
2 c hot tap water
5 c flour
3 tsp baking soda
1 tsp ground cloves
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinamon

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease & flour 2 loaf pans.

Sift together last 6 ingredients. Cream first 4 ingredients in a medium bowl. Combine dry with wet & mix gradually, adding hot water. Batter is very loose. Divide between 2 loaf pans & bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until it tests done.
