You can also take a strip of material and make a facing for the scallops. Right sides together and follow the scallops. Clip seams and turn over, as you would do for a garment. On back side fold over raw edge and handsew.

Sigh. I was afraid of that, but was hoping for some secret way to do this! THanks for the tutorial and advice. I've seen it demonstrated at a quilt club meeting so it's not completely foreign. I'll let you know how it all turns out!
