I have made for my grand boys (5 & 8 years old) quilts for Christmas this year. And I had the same problem until I decided to look at what books they were reading and what movies interested them. Guess what dianasaur and Spider Man. I used the crazy curves or drunked path. ??? You'll have to forgive me I'm new at quilting and the names for patterns. I put the design in the curved part and a bold design in the square. Hope that makes sense. Good luck. :D
