I don't have a site for a pattern but here is my place mats directions if you like.
#1 cut your fabric, batting, backing all the same size. Mine were cut 12x15 inches.
#2 cut strips, start at 2 1/2" wide for the first strip. Left over binding strips work well for these in all widths. You need different widths to make these. Your scraps are a great source for strips of different widths and lengths. Very easy place mats. I made 8 all at once. All different because I used my scraps & binding left overs.

#3 Cut different widths and lengths and starch & press them. Starch & iron all fabrics before you begin, Not batting. Set aside.

#4 Take 1 wide strip of 2 1/2" to begin. Place corner to corner on an angle sewing over raw edges on both sides of this first strip.
#5 Keep adding strips one at a time and you want to have these next strips RST, but only sewing on one edge from corner to corner on an angle, fold strip back and press seam, now add another strip to this pressed edge, RST again. Stitch and press again and again as you keep adding strips to this one side of the place mat. You will have 5 strips at least on each side of this first 2 1/2" starting strip. ( you only sew 1 side at a time then flip the mat to sew on your strips to the other side to complete the mat.) After you've sewn all of them now you will do the top stitching over your showing seams. I did a blanket stitching on all of mine in a black thread so it shows up nicely. Sit and do the hand binding while watching TV.
#6 here are a couple photo's of the ones made. These are fun and quick. The center one are deer in a forrest, doesn't show up very well. None of the 8 look the same.
