Why not try the CT in the bobbin? I used to do that all the time on that machine before I got my HQ. I always used the same thread for both.
The reason I haven't tried that is the color. I'm using a dark brown on top that blends with the fabric, but my backing is a much lighter beige/grey color. The bottom line thread I've got in my bobbin right now just melts right into the backing fabric & disappears. The quality of my quilting is such that disappearing stitches is a very good thing
