I was always taught and continue to teach "DRUM TAUT"! In other words, keep that fabric so tight on your hoop that you could probably play the 1812 Overture on it!!!! (Only kidding!) But, I am known world wide for my saying "Drum Taut" (Only kidding)! Maybe the block I live in!!!! You have to have the hoop that screws, not the kid that has that bent wire that just plops into a groove. I honestly prefer a wooden hoop. I tie down my quilts (Drum Taut also) with an 18x24 oval.
