The only Kenmore 158s that will chain stitch are the ones that have the little needle plate insert that you can switch from zigzag to straight stitch. Joe's has it. My 158.17550 also has it....& there are several other models but I can't name 'em! You remove the needle plate insert & put the chain stitch insert in. Then remove the bobbin case & insert the chain stitch adapter. They do make a nice chain stitch.....
