I didn't think you were supposed to throw these in the trash -- inside a glass jar or otherwise. I thought you had to take them to a hazardous material disposal site.
There is no way that these bulbs with mercury in them are better for the environment IN THE LONG RUN. Just wait til all that mercury starts seeping out of the landfills and into our water supply due to improper disposal.
