I don't spend a lot of time on hot pads. I usually just hit the string box and sew strip sets, slice them up, and sew them back together in an offset manner. I use double layers of W&N batting scraps or some old terry towels, with a layer of the silver heat resistant fabric stuff on the back or in the middle. I use the birthing method to finish so I don't have to waste time binding. A simple topstitch around the edges sets it off nicely, and a little ditch quilting around a few of the patches to hold it together. I pass them out to the family, like candy ;-)
