That depends on the kind of quilts you plan to make. If you plan to make a lot of scrap quilts or FQ/charm square quilts, it would be fine. When I am working on a quilt that uses a bit of yardage, sometimes I will cut it into smaller pieces to make it easier to handle, like 1 or 1-1/2 yard. But if I want to use that fabric for borders, I will often cut lengthwise border strips, then cut my smaller pieces out of the rest.
