I would not add to the end but at a spot about 1/3 or 2/3 from the end. Or I would add two stripes, same or diff fabrics to the back. It adds interest.
That will still look intentional - and give you some wiggle room. I have always had some slippage with the backs, and the bigger the piece, the more "grace" I need.
