$12.00 a yard is about average price for fabric at the LQS around here. Usually the prices range from about $10-$14 a yard. Beverly's (a local-ish chain store) is usually $9.99-11.99/yd. So $3/fat quarter is actually pretty reasonable, for my local area.
Which explains why I buy so much of my fabric online.
