Can you make the border in the second picture a little smaller?? Proportionally, it is so much larger then you squares even if they are set on point.
I do agree with this - what if you matched the size and shape of the cream colored sashings in the quilt? Maybe even add the dark cornerstones?
Of the two choices, I do prefer #2 - but it does seem clunky compared to the main body of the quilt.
