The best series I have found are Harriet Hargraves Quilter's Academy. It will be a series of 6 books, 4 are already out with #5 due out next year. They take you from the basics to designing your own quilts.
I agree but didn't know about this series, I have her books about machine quilting and appliqueing and they have been the most important books in my library.
