I once heard a woman at a sewing lecture say that not all projects should be finished and you shouldn't feel guilty about it. I've gone with that ever since. Let it go and move on to something you like working on.
That said you might want to put it away for a while. I've discovered that sometimes when I work on something for a long time it doesn't look good, but after a while if I take them out and they amazingly look better.
