A lot of good suggestions. I'm making a set of placemats for my neighbor, just uses them as place settings, not actual use.
I shortened a set of drapes and made a valance with some of the leftover fabric. Just the perfect width to use for placemats was cut off so I shopped my stash for a matching color for the back. He has no idea I'm making them.
