I tried used dryer sheets in one quilt. I sewed them to petal shaped appliques, cut a slit, turned them right side out, then pressed them. I don't have any chemical sensitivities or allergies, but ironing the petals was awful. I ended up changing applique techniques about a quarter way through that quilt.
