It is very hard to get a perfect hst to make perfect points, corners or whatever. It helps to starch your fabric before cutting out squares and then mark them and sew 1/4 on each side. Then trim to the size you want. Some people are not so picky about everything matching so you could go that way. I do my best and then not worry about it.
