Default Singer 101 Wiring

Hi! I'm new to the Quilting Board. I am reading the Vintage Singer posts as fast as I can but it is a bit overwhelming. I inherited my Grandmothers old Singer, cleaned it up and love it! Got in line to inherit a long bobbin and I am working on that one too. The question today is my purchase from Craigslist of a Singer 101 for $39. It was made May 1930. It's in pretty good shape and the table is in very nice shape, except the wiring......

To get to the point... the wiring looks pretty beat up and I have not even removed the fly wheel or potted motor (a bit afraid of what I will find). Can I rewire somehow with a foot pedal and electrical outlet cord instead of the knee pedal? Will the wires be ok when I remove any old insulating material (it's fraying).

Point me to any resources, Thank You in advance for any help! I am trying to post photos.
