It looks wonderful just as it is! She will treasure this and not look at it with the critiquing eye you do as the creator. Your ideas for the borders and stipling to finish sound perfect. You should be quite proud of your work.
BTW....it took me quite a while to find the Vegas blocks. Their similarity does not jump out at you. If it did I would help you rip it out
