The caps are the best. I do not suggest declawing as it is excruciatingly painful for a cat since you remove an entire digit. That is usually only done I extreme cases. If I have my cat near me I will place a fleece or cheap blanket over the quilt for her to need. I have used the caps and they last quite a while if you have a second person in the home you can put them on yourself
