Was the candy you're thinking of called "Cherry Mash" ?
I too vote for no sashing and would add the 2 extra blocks so it could be used as a wall-hanging or runner. the current size though could be used for a wall-hanging also or table topper. actually i might prefer that with simple, calming border(s).
