I am all for scrap busting and might just make one like this. Thanks for sharing your pictures.
You could also do this same pattern starting with a QST in the centre, then continue as a log cabin or courthouse steps. Then cut into quarters to get the same look as you have with the above.
For more scrappy-ness to either patterns, you could do each side of the block a different fabric instead of all the same on each round.
